Multi-Million Dollar Case Winner
Joshua Voelkel is a law clerk aiding the Powell Law Group attorneys and paralegals in personal injury and civil cases. Josh is a graduate of Christopher Newport University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with minors in both Philosophy and Religion. Josh is now a third year law student at the University of Richmond T.C. Williams School of Law. He plans to sit for the Virginia State Bar upon graduation and practice in the greater Richmond area. Josh has a two year old Boston Terrier named Harvey.
Katie McFadden Freeman
Katie McFadden Freeman is a law clerk aiding the attorneys and paralegals in personal injury and civil cases. Katie graduated with honors from Christopher Newport University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and American Studies with minors in Leadership Studies and Psychology. Most recently, Katie is a 2018 graduate of the University of Richmond T.C. Williams School of Law and a member of the Trial Advocacy Board. She is scheduled to take the Virginia State Bar in the spring of 2019 and then return to the staff as an associate attorney continuing her work with personal injury litigation at Powell Law Group.
Lori focuses on the Powell Law Group's personal injury cases. She graduated cum laude with an Associate Degree in Paralegal Studies from J. Sargeant Reynolds in 1994, and has since worked as a personal injury paralegal in the greater Richmond area. Lori was also a member of the Chesterfield County Parent Teacher Organization (PTA) for 11 years while her twins Alex and Alyssa were in school. Lori enjoys traveling on cruises and taking her family to Disney World.
Ashley handles the Powell Law Group's workers' compensation cases, assists in office operations, and is responsible for scheduling. She received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from East Carolina University. Previously, Ashley served as a marketing coordinator for a web and mobile software application development company and worked in the computer manufacturing industry.
Traffic and Criminal
At the Powell Law Group, Karmadawn manages the schedule, handles the traffic and criminal cases, and assists with administrative responsibilities. She received her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from West Virginia State University. Karmadawn's career began as an economic service worker, evaluating and verifying personal and financial information to determine eligibility to government services. She was also a fraud investigator for the Department of Health and Human Resources.
Kelsey works closely with Wayne Powell, assisting him with day-to-day legal affairs. A recent graduate of Randolph-Macon College with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Political Science and Business Management, she previously worked with several nonprofits including Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). Most recently Kelsey worked in the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s Office and the Office of Public Safety and Homeland Security in the Governor’s Office, as well as the General Assembly during the 2018 legislative session.
Kelly first joined the Powell Law Group as an intern through the Legal Systems Administration Program, and now works as a legal assistant for workers' compensation cases. Her responsibilities include translating correspondence, translating on behalf of staff and clients, transcribing medical summaries, and handling client and provider relations. Kelly is currently working towards her associate degree at John Tyler Community College.
Legal Assistant: Personal Injury
Madeline is a legal assistant for the personal injury group at Powell Law Firm. She previously interned with the Powell Law Group, drafting medical summaries, interpreting and translating for staff and clients, as well as assisting in administrative tasks. She is a recent graduate of Longwood University with her Bachelor of Science in Political Science and minors in Spanish and Sociology. She participated in organizations such as College Republicans and the Hispanic Latino Association.

Joan Torres Serrano
Joan works as a legal assistant for the paralegals helping with personal injury and workers' compensation cases at the Powell Law Group. Currently enrolled in John Tyler Community College, she is working towards a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. Participating in many group organizations and teams throughout her past, she's enjoying the team support at the firm, as she learns from her coworkers daily.
